Hi I’m Dominic Giarratano. Welcome back to Electric TV. And if you’ve been watching us this year you know that the NECO-IBEW team is making a big push to build your next data center. We happen to think we’re the best in the world at what we do and it’s our job here on ETV to show you why. Today, we want to show you just one more example. When Sabey Corporation needed a data center to work near their hometown of Seattle, Washington they knew they could rely on IBEW local unions and the NECA contractors in the area to get it done. Followed is a brief tour of that facility. Check it out.
John Ford – Vice President, Sabey Data Centers
“What people hear about the cloud, they talk about the cloud being somewhere, well, the cloud floats around inside of our facilities. Inside of our buildings. So, this is where the cloud resides. We’ve got data centers both in Seattle and in eastern Washington. In two different locations. So we have about 3,000,000 square feet of data center space across the United States. Electrical systems is a major part of these facilities. Probably somewhere 40-45% of our build-out, or build-out cost, are involved with our electrical system.”
David Wolf – General Foreman, Homes Electric
“We took the existing high-tech generators that they are on the facility which were a fly-well generator. We removed the fly-well portion of the generators. We have to make sure all the wire sizes are correct. We have to make sure that we pipe the system in a neat fashion. We have to pull the wire in it and verify it and test it. Make sure the wire has no issues with it and will function properly.”
Mike Stanley – Journyman, Local 46 IBEW
“It’s different because there’s a lot more different types of systems. You have the UPS’s, uninterruptible power sources and backup. Well going through the NGATC there’s a lot of training specifically geared towards data centers. There’s a circuit for that. “
John Ford – Vice President, Sabey Data Centers
“We rely on our union labor that we have of electricians that do the work. This is a very complex design and as you can see it’s just a symphony of steel conduits. We’re a must-have-it-now society today and all those services, all those mobile services and services at your desktop are being supported through a data center like this. And all those data centers rely on the electrical infrastructure that has been professionally designed and installed.”
Mike Stanley – Journyman, Local 46 IBEW
“We have a good working relationship at all parties. Trying to make sure everybody’s happy and it’s going to plan.”
John Ford – Vice President, Sabey Data Centers
“These projects need to be done on time, on budget and with no surprises and we know that’s the kind of service that we get. “
Sabey builds data centers and Sabey hires the NECA-IWEB team. It’s a business relationship that works and it’s one that would work in any data center coast to coast. If you need a professional work force to create electrical solutions for your data center or commercial building, give your IWEB union or a NECA contractor a call today. Thanks for being with us on this addition of Electric TV. Till next time, I’m Dominic Giarratano.
