We’re all familiar with electric cars, but have you heard of electric boats? Probably not, especially because water and electricity don’t usually mix. But, at Niagara Falls, NECA/IBEW Powering America Team worked closely with the Maid of the Mist Corporation to bring the vision of emission-free electric boats to this World Wonder.

By transitioning away from diesel-powered engines on their boats, the world-renowned Maid of The Mist Corporation is eliminating not just the emissions but the vibration and sound on-board that have distracted from the beauty that Niagara Falls has to offer.

Now, with a new and improved all-electric fleet, passengers get an up-close and personal look at this World Wonder and, thanks to Ferguson Electric and IBEW Local 237, make the round trip voyage in ease, style, and comfort all while being a good steward to the environment.

Along with aesthetic improvements, these 74-ton boats, which carry up to 300 passengers each, are ‘plugged in’ after each trip and remarkably take only 7 minutes to fully recharge! And even though most of the crew hadn’t helped to build an electric boat before, the Powering America Team didn’t back down from this challenge.
